Guide of Tacoronte


Visit the historical part

Tacoronte is on the north side of the island, it has an altitude of 400-800m above sea level. Due to the mild climate and fertile soil it is good for agricultural growth  and it is famous for its grape vines and traditional wine.

It is a typically Canarian town with all the necessary services such as: supermarkets, chemists, medical centres, sport centre, shops, restaurants, local markets, a good bus route  and taxi service.

It has a rugged coastline with beautiful black sand beaches and also natural sea  water swimming pools.

Tacoronte has some important monuments worth seeing:

  • The church of San Juan which was built in 1740.
  • The Caridad church dates form 17th Century.
  • The church of Santa Catalina Martyr of Alexandria dates from the 17th Century.
  • The church of Santo Cristo overlooks the square  and it has a spectacular silver altar, the ceiling above is Mudejar with  Baroque paintings from the 17th Century.

The historical quarter of Tacoronte is  architecturally beautiful with old  houses with pretty balconies.

The old monastery with the church of Cristo de los Dolores from the 17th Century  is a good example of Canarian, baroque style mixed with South American colonial influences.

Eating out

Tacoronte is known for it´s good food and is famous for its wines. You can visit their wine cellars or take the Wine Route.

There are good restaurants where you can taste the famous "wrinkled potatoes" and " canary mojo sauce".

In the house we will provide directions to various restaurants in the area.

On Saturdays and Sundays , the farmers bring their  fresh products to the Farmer´s  Market at 10 minutes drive, where you can buy cheese, bakery, honey and vegetables from their fields.

  • Flea market ( Rastro) on Sundays in Santa Cruz de Tenerife from 9 to 13,0 hours and on Saturdays in Puerto de la Cruz


Historical Cities:

  • San Cristobal de La Laguna: 5 minutes drive. World Heritage and university town. Do not miss wondering the streets, visit museums, the manor houses.
  • La Orotava: 15 minutes drive. Visit the museums and  the famous "Casa de los Balcones".
  • Santa Cruz de Tenerife: Wander through the old town, museums, church " La Concepcion", "San Francisco". restaurants in "La Noria street".
